The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Tuesday that China will work with African countries to build the “African Solar Belt” program and help Africa truly embark on the path of green and low-carbon development.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, spoke to reporters after meeting with Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso.
When asked how China and Africa can jointly address the issue of climate change, Wang said President Sassou’s great concern for the issue of climate change reflects the foresight of African leaders, adding that China has always supported Africa in achieving green development as the installed capacity of jointly built photovoltaic power plants has exceeded 1.5 gigawatts, lighting thousands of homes across the continent.
He added that Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed that China and Africa jointly push for green modernization, which is the common goal of the two sides and one of the major tasks of this visit.
Wang stressed that China will implement the Partnership for Green Development action plan, and work with African countries to implement clean energy projects proposed at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), pledging that China will work with Africa to promote global climate governance.
Stressing the need to adhere to the principle of fair and common but differentiated responsibilities, Wang called on developed countries to handle their historical responsibilities, fulfill their commitments seriously, and provide financial and technical support and capacity building to developing countries, especially African countries.
