Ambassador of Niger to Cairo: Relations with Egypt witnessed signing of several agreements

The Niger Embassy in Cairo organized a celebration on the occasion of the National Day. In her speech, the Niger Ambassador Thani Nana said that

Relations between the two countries witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements immediately after Niger gained independence in 1960 in the fields of trade and education.

The first large building was built in the capital, Niamey, which bears the name “Victory Expressions”, and the areas of cooperation diversified with the signing of other agreements, including the December 1983 agreement that established the Grand Joint Committee for Cooperation between Niger and Egypt.

The ambassador added: Embassies were also opened in the two countries, which is a strong indication that reflects the quality of this rich and diverse cooperation that covers several fields such as: higher education, vocational training, health, diplomacy, security, agriculture – for example, the agricultural project in the Tiagiriri region.

Hundreds of Nigerians have benefited from the Egyptian expertise at the Cairo Center for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping, the Diplomatic Institute, and the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development.

Hundreds of students from Niger have graduated from Al-Azhar University and other universities in Egypt for decades and the flow continues.

On the political level, it reflects our common affiliation within international organizations such as the United Nations, the African Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Community of Sahel-Saharan States.

She extended special thanks to Egypt for the hospitality and facilities provided to make the stay enjoyable, and for participating in this day that reflects the distinguished relations between the two countries.

She added, it is very unfortunate that the conflicts continue in Gaza, Lebanon, and Sudan.

It is very important for the international community to take the initiative to end these situations that generate indescribable suffering.

The Ambassador praised the efforts of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who is working to find a permanent solution to these conflicts, for the sake of peace and stability in the Middle East in particular.

On the 18th of December, which marks the anniversary of the declaration of the Republic and we celebrate 66 years, my greetings to the brave defense and security forces, and all the sons of Niger who work to achieve security and stability of the homeland due to some attacks by terrorist groups and armed gangs.

Since July 26, 2023, Niger has begun a new era: an era to restore the full sovereignty of the state, where the interests of Niger and respect for strategic choices are the basis of all the state’s actions in its relations with all partners.

Niger, under the leadership of President Abdourahmane Tiani, and Prime Minister Ali Mohamed El Amin, remains committed to building beneficial relations with new partners, based on mutual respect.

The ambassador added: Niger is a country of peace, imbued with the core values ​​of brotherhood, equality and justice, and which only aspires to benefit from the many riches that its lands contain, and to ensure its full sovereignty.

She stressed that the community is an important element and is considered the ninth province of Niger, where Nigerians enjoy great appreciation all over the world – I encourage them to maintain this approach – and to be a role model in Egypt.

I urge you to continue to strengthen brotherhood and solidarity and maintain ties with your relatives who remained in the homeland, and then work for the social and economic development of our dear homeland.

The ceremony was attended by: Minister of Culture Ahmed Fouad Hanou, Head of the African Union Mission to the League of Arab States Ambassador Nader Fath Al-Alim, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Nigerians Abroad (Egypt Branch), Chairman of the Advisory Committee for Nigerien Students in Egypt.

A number of ambassadors also attended, including: Colombia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Algeria, Cameroon, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zambia, South Africa, Senegal, Sultanate of Oman, Rwanda, Deputy Ambassador of Venezuela, Media and Political Advisor at the Embassy of Morocco Dr. Mohi Marzouk, and Major General Ismail Abdel Aziz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian-Moroccan Businessmen Association.
