At the conclusion of the round of political consultations held between Egypt and Uganda at the ministerial level on Wednesday, December 4, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Henry Okello, Minister of International Relations of the Republic of Uganda, signed a joint declaration on developing bilateral relations and developments at the regional and international levels, with the aim of enhancing mutual interests and common African interests.
The two sides agreed on the importance of enhancing regular consultations and exchanging visits at various levels between the relevant ministries in both countries, and enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially peacebuilding and combating terrorism, including the exchange of expertise and technical cooperation in water resources management in general and capacity building, as well as encouraging the Egyptian and Ugandan private sectors to increase bilateral trade and investment.
The two sides also stressed in the joint declaration their adherence to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, in line with the Constitutive Act of the African Union and the Charter of the United Nations. They agreed to consult regularly on the Nile waters to reach an agreement for mutual benefit and cooperation in the Nile Basin in accordance with international law and best practices.
