Minister of FA & Immigration meets his South Korean counterpart

On September 27, 2024, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, met with Mr. Cho Tae-yeol, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, Minister Badr Abdel Aati expressed his aspiration to continue working on developing bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields, as well as advancing economic and trade cooperation, referring to the development achieved during the past period in terms of bilateral cooperation projects and increasing the volume of Korean investments in Egypt.

Minister Abdel Aati noted the promising investment opportunities provided by the major projects being implemented in Egypt, including the New Administrative Capital and Suez Canal Economic Zone projects, as well as investment opportunities in hydrogen gas manufacturing and transportation projects, batteries, electric cars, green technology and energy storage, expressing his aspiration to establish a Korean zone in the Suez Canal Special Economic Zone within the framework of joint manufacturing and localizing industry and benefiting from the legislative and financial incentives provided by Egypt and the multiple comparative advantages.

At the international level, the Minister of Foreign Affairs also expressed Egypt’s aspiration to continue coordination with South Korea in all international multilateral forums, especially in light of its current non-permanent membership in the Security Council, appreciating the recent Korean positions regarding the war on Gaza.

In this context, Minister Abdel Aati addressed the dangerous developments in the Middle East in light of the escalation of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and the continued aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and stressed the complete rejection of any state above the law and not subject to accountability, and reiterated the need for the Security Council to assume its responsibilities and take the necessary measures to stop the ongoing war and achieve an immediate, comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and to spare the region from slipping into an open regional war.
