The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Cairo and the Embassy of Italy in Cairo have been tasked with supporting NATO’s relations with Egypt, with which it has a partnership, in 2025 and 2026. As part of the two countries’ joint mission as a focal point, the Embassy of Turkey will serve as the lead country in 2025, and the Embassy of Italy will serve as the lead country in 2026.

In this context, the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Cairo will play a leading role in 2025 by coordinating with the Embassy of Italy to support NATO-Egypt relations and contribute to public relations.

The event also highlighted Turkey’s NATO membership from a historical perspective.

Information was exchanged on the NATO Southern Neighbors Action Plan, adopted at the NATO Summit in Washington in 2024.

At this event, the NATO Secretariat also provided information on NATO-Egypt relations, projects, and potential cooperation with NATO.

Following the 2024 Washington Summit, NATO Secretary General Javier Colomina was appointed NATO Secretary General’s Representative for the Southern Neighborhood.
