The King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Dialogue Center (KAICIID) organized the first regional forum for ambassadors accredited to the Portuguese Republic from Arab countries at its headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal, under the title “Methods of Transformative Dialogue for Peace and Social Cohesion.”
This high-level event was co-hosted by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco, Dean of the Arab Regional Group, Othman Ababa Hanini; the Acting Secretary-General of KAICIID, Ambassador António de Almeida Ribeiro; and diplomatic representatives from 11 Arab countries, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the founding state and member of the KAICIID Council of Parties; Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates.
This meeting comes within the framework of the United Nations International Year of Peace and Trust, emphasizing the growing need for dialogue among various international actors to address the multiple and interconnected challenges facing the world.
The meeting reviewed the Center’s pioneering programs in the Arab region and announced an upcoming project, “Dialogue within Muslim Communities,” scheduled to launch in 2025. The project aims to promote social cohesion, shared citizenship, and build trust within diverse Muslim communities.
The forum serves as a platform for exchanging views between ambassadors and diplomatic representatives, reflecting a spirit of solidarity and a shared desire to cooperate for a future of peace and understanding.
The Secretary-General of the Center announced that Portugal had received an official invitation to join the KAICIID Council of Parties, an important step toward strengthening the Center’s integration into the host country.
This forum is the first in a series of similar meetings the Center plans to organize throughout 2025, as part of its efforts to expand cooperation with the diplomatic corps and strengthen its mission of peacebuilding through constructive dialogue.
