The Russian House in Cairo, in cooperation with the Russian School affiliated with the Russian Embassy in Egypt and in coordination with the Egyptian Space Agency, organized a visit to the statue of Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on the occasion of World Space Day. The Russian delegation was led by Arseniy Matyushenko, Acting Director of the Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt; Valery Pribytkov, Director of the Russian School in Cairo; and Daria Bocharova, Senior Specialist at the Russian Center.

Matiushenko spoke about the importance of the event and the commemoration of the first human ascent into outer space in history, performed by Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. This event was an impetus for further scientific and technological development in the conquest of space, beginning with the Soviet Union and followed by successive countries.

Valery Pribytkov emphasized that Gagarin’s first flight into outer space has become a symbol of humanity’s will to achieve scientific development and an incentive for humanity to further advance technologically. After laying flowers at the statue of Yuri Gagarin, the Egyptian Space Agency’s management organized a tour for the Russian delegation to visit the agency’s laboratories and view the agency’s latest equipment. It’s worth noting that astronaut Yuri Gagarin visited Egypt after returning to Earth from his space mission in 1962, and President Abdel Nasser honored him with the Nile Necklace.
