The celebration of Pakistan’s National Day at the Cairo Marriott on April 8th, 2025, was a significant event in the relationship between Pakistan and Egypt. The newly appointed Pakistani Ambassador, Excellency Mr. Aamir Shoukat, led the event, which highlighted the growing ties and mutual respect between the two countries.

The attendance of Eng. Mohamed Shimi, the Egyptian State Minister of Public Businesses Sector, emphasized the importance of economic cooperation, particularly within organizations like the Developing Islamic Countries (D8), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Excellency Mr. Aamir Shoukat played a key role in organizing the event, showing his diplomatic skills through the selection of cultural elements and inviting important Egyptian officials. He focused on diversity and economic collaboration, which resonated with attendees and displayed the Embassy’s aim to present a positive image of Pakistan in Egypt.

A highlight of the event was the performance of traditional Pakistani folk dances, marking a first for the National Day celebration in Cairo. This cultural display showed Pakistan’s dedication to celebrating its various ethnicities and regional identities. It served as a reminder of unity and inclusivity in a world often divided by conflict.

The event encouraged cultural diplomacy and aimed to strengthen relations between Pakistan and Egypt by showcasing vibrant traditions. Eng. Mohamed Shimi’s presence signified Egypt’s desire to enhance economic ties with Pakistan, particularly in trade, investment, and infrastructure.

Discussions during the event centered around collaboration opportunities in energy, agriculture, and technology, reflecting a commitment to mutual benefit in the D8, OIC, and SCO frameworks. Overall, the event highlighted the potential for strong cooperation between the two nations for a prosperous future.

Reception’s main dialogue was about how to circumvent Trump’s Tariffs, the impacts thereof on Egypt and how to find collectively a proper shelter in this regard

In the reception hall, a tense atmosphere prevailed as influential figures discussed President Trump’s implementation of indiscriminate tariffs globally, especially those targeting the European Union, Asia, and the world. Concerns have grown about how these tariffs will significantly impact global trade, with the World Trade Organization predicting a potential 1.4 percent drop in global GDP and a more severe impact on the interconnected U.S. economy. This situation poses a major challenge for countries, especially those in the developing world like Egypt, which must find ways to deal with these new economic realities.

Located at a strategic crossroads, Egypt faces significant risks and opportunities due to these tariffs. Its exports, including textiles and agricultural products, may face obstacles in this area, but strengthening ties with emerging markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia as well as Europe may help Egypt diversify its trade and overcome some of these issues. This strategy supports a broader vision of a more balanced global economy that values cooperation among developing countries.

U.S. tariffs on imports from Egypt are assessed at 10%. It is worth noting that Egypt previously imposed the same amount of 10% tariffs on US imports, which is considered the lowest tariffs imposed by Trump on other countries, thanks to Egypt’s location, its neighborhood with the Zionist entity, the existence of the Camp David Accords, and America and Israel’s fear of the Egyptian army, the strongest in the region, which defeated Israel in October 1973 and liberated the Sinai Peninsula.

The US administration cannot afford to lose the Egyptian role in any way. In fact, America sent a high-level delegation that was staying in the finest hotels in Cairo to discuss the current situation in Gaza and the region and try to coordinate on Red Sea security because of Egypt’s good relationship with Yemen and the Houthis.

This low level of US tariffs on Egypt makes Egypt attract more investment from the East and from Europe, especially from countries subject to third-party taxes that could help Egypt solve its export woes to the US if it has good intentions.

The implementation of tariffs points to the need for a new economic debate that transcends the outdated North-South dichotomy where developed countries have the upper hand. The emergence of economies in Asia, Africa, and Latin America requires a more inclusive approach to global governance, one that respects the unique challenges faced by different regions. The United States has a pivotal choice: Should it act cooperatively or pursue a unilateral path that could increase international tensions, U.S. isolation, and a Great Depression?

The current rise in protectionism is not only manifested in tariffs but also reflects deeper issues of trust between nations. Building partnerships and communication channels is vital to address this mistrust. Successful global initiatives, such as the Paris Agreement, show what can be achieved through collaboration and highlight the necessity of multilateralism.

For innovators, this changing landscape presents both obstacles and opportunities. Their ability to innovate and communicate across cultures is essential to foster understanding and collaboration. The creative sector can be a powerful force for change, encouraging economic growth and cohesive societies. As the global economic system evolves, there is a need for an inclusive dialog that promotes shared responsibility and mutual respect. The creative community is called upon to use its strengths for a better global future, highlighting the importance of unity in the face of future economic challenges.

The world should play collectively to confront any possible threat from US in the coming days and both economic, strategic dialogue and North East or North South Synergy is needy

In light of the significant economic downturn in the United States, which led to a loss of 9 trillion US dollars shortly after President Trump’s tariffs were put in place, the country faces a crucial period. This unprecedented crisis has not only impacted the US economy but also poses serious concerns for global economic stability. The world must consider how the US could regain economic strength, as historical patterns suggest nations sometimes engage in extreme actions, like terrorism or hidden pandemics, to divert attention and regain power. The global community needs to stay alert and prepared for such possibilities.

The economic turmoil in the US has widespread implications across the globe, as the US economy is deeply connected to the prosperity of other nations. The 9 trillion dollar loss signifies not just a financial blow but also a shift in global economic power. As the US attempts to recover, it might opt for various overt and covert strategies to restore its standing. Nations should be aware of these potential approaches and work together to counteract them.

One alarming prospect is the use of terrorism to distract from economic failures and gain domestic support. Historical events show that governments might exploit fear during crises to solidify authority and distract from pressing issues. Similarly, there is concern that the US might stage a hidden pandemic, akin to COVID-19, to create chaos and justify extensive control measures. The global community must strengthen public health systems and cooperate internationally to mitigate such threats effectively.

This economic crisis emphasizes the need for strategic dialogue and collaboration among nations to tackle the root causes of economic instability. The interconnected nature of the global economy means that no country can face these challenges alone. Nations should engage in constructive discussions to address trade issues and push for sustainable practices.

Collaboration between developed and developing nations, known as North-South synergy, is vital. Developing nations can provide markets for growth, while developed ones can share resources. Similarly, North-East synergy, or collaboration among North America, Europe, and East Asia, is critical for addressing the US crisis and creating balanced economic policies.

To confront potential threats from the US, countries must develop strategic economic policies and resilient financial systems. This includes diversifying trade, minimizing dependency on one market, and enhancing regulatory frameworks. Promoting global cooperation and solidarity will be crucial as the world seeks to create a fair and sustainable economic future amidst these challenges. The economic failure in the US offers an opportunity for reassessment of the global e

conomic structure, aiming for a system that benefits everyone fairly.
