It is not unusual for regional and international Zionism to sow discord among Arab siblings, under the slogan “divide and conquer,” so that brothers fight and the hyenas win the spoils. I do not believe that the great Egypt and the Arab capital, Qatar, would heed such nonsense, carried out by poisoned pens whose sole concern is sowing discord in exchange for a handful of dollars!
It appears that this raging campaign against sisterly Qatar, its close relationship with Egypt, and the Palestinian resistance’s remarkable confidence in Qatar, came in response to the remarkable presence of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, as the highest representative and his personal attendance at the recent Cairo Summit for the Reconstruction of Gaza, which embarrassed those absent from the Arab world. Some represented their country as its ambassador to Egypt, while others were content with serving as their foreign minister.
In response to such nonsense, Qatar denied on Thursday media reports that it had paid money to diminish Egypt’s role in mediating between Hamas and Israel to stop the fighting in the Gaza Strip, in what became known as the “Qatargate” affair.
Qatar’s International Media Office stated in a statement that it aimed to respond to the “false” media reports about the mediation process between Hamas and Israel.
The statement indicated that the State of Qatar “expresses its strong condemnation of the media statements by some journalists and media outlets alleging that the State of Qatar paid money to diminish the efforts of the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt or any of the mediators in the mediation process between Hamas and Israel.”
The statement added: “The State of Qatar affirms that these allegations are baseless and serve only agendas aimed at sabotaging mediation efforts and undermining relations between brotherly peoples. They also represent a new episode in the series of misinformation, distraction from the humanitarian suffering, and the ongoing politicization of the war.”
The statement continued: “The State of Qatar warns against these individuals slipping into serving projects whose sole purpose is to thwart the mediation and increase the suffering of our brothers in Palestine.”
It also affirmed that: “The State of Qatar remains committed to its humanitarian and diplomatic role in mediating between the concerned parties to end this disastrous war, and is working closely and continuously with our brothers in the Arab Republic of Egypt to enhance the chances of achieving a lasting ceasefire and protecting the lives of civilians.”
The statement explained: “The State of Qatar commends the pivotal role of our brothers in the Arab Republic of Egypt in this important issue, as daily cooperation and coordination takes place between the two sides to ensure the success of joint mediation efforts aimed at achieving stability in the region.”
Qatar reiterated its “emphasis that mediation efforts must remain free from any attempts at politicization or distortion, and that the priority remains alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people, protecting civilians, and achieving a just and sustainable settlement based on the two-state solution.”
It seems that the recent success of our brothers in Egypt and Qatar, in reaching a ceasefire and exchanging prisoners here and there, has made some feel dwarfed, or that they sensed that the winds of sincerity in the mediation of both Egypt and Qatar had brought what they desired. They breathed a sigh of relief, especially when the United States repeatedly praised the mediation of Egypt and Qatar and their pivotal role, not only since the beginning of the current crisis, but throughout the past decades.
