On March 19, the Russian Embassy in Egypt organized a charity iftar at the Agha Restaurant in Giza to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan. In accordance with Islamic tradition, tables were set out in the street for the festive iftar, the first meal of the day during the fasting period. Meals and favorite Arabic drinks were served to residents of the Dokki neighborhood, where the Russian diplomatic mission is located.
Diplomats personally distributed the food and seated the approximately 400 guests. Also in attendance were parliamentarians, members of the Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities, representatives of public and scientific circles, and journalists.
Before the iftar began, Russian Ambassador to Egypt Georgy Borisenko addressed the attendees, noting that holding such annual charitable events has become a good tradition that contributes to strengthening the friendly relations between our two peoples. He wished the attendees happiness and well-being, and congratulated them on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
After the iftar meal, in accordance with Islamic custom, Ramadan food boxes containing the essential ingredients for preparing popular local dishes were distributed, which Egyptian friends will now be able to enjoy in their homes with their families.
