Minister of FA & Immigration Holds Talks with Tanzanian Counterpart

Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, held talks on Wednesday, March 19, with Mr. Mahmoud Thabet Kombo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Minister Abdel Aty praised the historical and fraternal relations between Egypt and Tanzania, expressing his great interest in strengthening relations in various fields. He also commended the significant progress achieved since the visit of His Excellency the President of the Republic to Tanzania in August 2017, followed by the convening of the third session of the Joint Committee between the two countries in Cairo in January 2018. This witnessed the signing of memoranda of understanding for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of diplomatic training, agriculture, and tourism. He expressed his aspiration to hold the fourth session of the Joint Committee.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the growing interest of Egyptian businessmen and investors in the Tanzanian market in recent years, as reflected in the visits of numerous Egyptian economic, investment, and trade delegations to Tanzania, the increasing number and diversity of Egyptian companies operating in the Tanzanian market, and Egyptian investments, which have reached approximately $1.36 billion. He expressed his aspiration to increase Egyptian investments in the Tanzanian market, implement infrastructure projects and major national projects, and enhance bilateral cooperation in the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors. He also expressed his readiness to provide further technical support to the Tanzanian side in building its capacities in various fields through the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development.

Minister Abdel Aty pointed to the priority the Egyptian side has given to implementing the Julius Nyerere Dam project, which is considered an exemplary model of African cooperation in hydroelectric dam projects, with construction completion reaching approximately 99.9%. He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to supporting development in the Nile Basin.
