Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received today, Tuesday, the 18th of this month, “Andrej Plenkovic”, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, who is currently visiting the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that Aboul Gheit discussed with the Croatian Prime Minister ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two sides in areas of common interest. Aboul Gheit expressed his aspiration to develop Croatian positions in a positive manner to support the Palestinian cause in the United Nations and international forums, considering that supporting just Palestinian rights, most notably the right of the Palestinians to establish their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, represents the only way to achieve peace, security and stability in the region.

Aboul Gheit stressed the Arab rejection of displacement proposals, and called on Croatia to follow the example of the European countries that recently recognized the Palestinian state.

The official spokesman added that the Secretary-General of the Arab League listened to an explanation from the Croatian Prime Minister about his assessments of the developments in the Russian-Ukrainian war in light of the current developments regarding the Russian-American dialogue in Riyadh. In turn, Aboul Gheit indicated his aspiration for the success of the American-Russian talks currently taking place in Riyadh, considering that this leads to a required calming of the tense international situation, which will positively reflect on the state of global security.
