Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Gu Jiakun said at a regular press conference on January 16 that the Chinese side welcomes the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, and hopes to effectively implement the agreement and achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza. Since the outbreak of this round of conflict in Gaza, the Chinese side has been calling for a ceasefire and an end to fighting as soon as possible, and has been making positive efforts to push for calming the situation, protecting civilians and providing humanitarian relief. In this context, the Chinese side supports the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, and will continue its unremitting efforts in providing humanitarian assistance and post-war reconstruction in Gaza. We also sincerely hope that relevant parties will seize the opportunity of the ceasefire in Gaza to push for the easing of tensions in the region. The Chinese side will work with the international community to make unremitting efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East region.
