Abdel Aati & Lavrov discuss bilateral relations and regional issues

Today, December 22, a phone call took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, and his Russian counterpart, Mr. Sergey Lavrov.

Ambassador/ Tamim Khilaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the two ministers discussed various aspects of bilateral political, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, specifically the joint development projects being implemented, as the two ministers followed up on the latest developments in the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and the Dabaa nuclear power plant, and stressed the importance of intensifying political consultations at the ministerial level, in implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic and the Russian President on the sidelines of the BRICS summit held in Kazan.

On the other hand, the two ministers reviewed the most important developments in the Syrian scene, where they agreed on the importance of supporting the Syrian state and respecting its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and enhancing coordination between the active parties in order to support Syria during the transitional phase, in a way that upholds the interests of the Syrian people in all their spectrums and components, and in a way that allows for the adoption of a comprehensive political process owned by Syria that leads to restoring stability to Syria, in a way that preserves the security, future and capabilities of the Syrian people. The two sides also discussed the latest developments in Gaza, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs reviewed the intensive Egyptian efforts to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire that allows humanitarian aid to reach the sector.
