Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, and Ms. “Haja Lahbib”, European Commissioner for Crisis Management, held a virtual meeting on Monday, December 16, to discuss ways to support relations between Egypt and the European Union, especially in light of the exacerbation of crises and common challenges witnessed by the region.
Minister Abdel Aati congratulated the European official on assuming her new position, and reviewed Egypt’s efforts to provide humanitarian support to the Gaza Strip in light of the deterioration of the situation to a catastrophic level in light of Israel’s insistence on obstructing the access of humanitarian aid, stressing the need for the international community to play its role in order to ensure full and unconditional access to humanitarian aid without obstacles. In this context, Minister Abdel Aati briefed the European official on the results of the Cairo Ministerial Conference to Strengthen the Humanitarian Response to Gaza, which was held on December 2, and its success in mobilizing new financial pledges for international organizations operating in the Gaza Strip.
On the other hand, Minister Abdel-Ati praised what was included in the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union, which was announced in March 2024, regarding the necessity of the European Union’s support for Egypt, especially in light of the economic burdens imposed on the Egyptian government as a result of hosting millions of refugees and migrants who are granted services granted to Egyptians, highlighting the increasing burdens as a result of the multiple crises in the Middle East.
