FIFA announced today, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has won the bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup™, during the extraordinary General Assembly meeting held virtually today.

The Kingdom will be the first host country in history to host the largest edition of the World Cup, which will see the participation of 48 national teams in five cities to host the tournament matches, after the new tournament system was approved by FIFA earlier.

The Kingdom had officially submitted its candidacy file to host this edition of the World Cup finals last July, under the slogan “Together We Grow”, in which it revealed its ambitious plans to host this most important tournament in the world of football, by hosting the World Cup matches in 15 stadiums, distributed across five host cities; namely: Riyadh, Jeddah, Al-Khobar, Abha, and Neom, in addition to ten other hosting sites across the Kingdom.

By hosting the FIFA World Cup™ 2034, the Kingdom aims to provide exceptional experiences for players and fans from around the world, while providing distinguished facilities and accommodation options that meet the various requirements of visitors, while paying attention to the sustainability of the projects established and preserving the environment. There is also an advanced transportation network that enables fans to reach the stadiums quickly and easily, in addition to facilitating travel procedures; to ensure a comfortable and distinguished experience for visitors. After officially announcing itself as the host country for the 2034 World Cup to the international community, the Kingdom affirmed its commitment to providing an exceptional and unprecedented experience for the largest sporting event in the world, thus contributing to human development, human capacity development, and building bridges of communication between the world’s cultures, taking into account the environmental impact, sustainability factors, and maximizing the sporting and national legacy of hosting, as hosting the FIFA World Cup™ 2034 represents an important opportunity to highlight the progress that the Kingdom has been experiencing since His Royal Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect him – launched the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 in 2016, in addition to the ongoing achievements in the sports sector, by hosting many global sporting events such as Formula 1, Formula E, and the Dakar Rally, in addition to the Spanish Super Cup and the Italian Super Cup, and other various and diverse sporting events and activities, which resulted in significant growth in the tourism sector; with the number of local and international tourists exceeding 100 million tourists during the year 2023.
