On Wednesday, December 4, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, received a phone call from Anthony Blinken, US Secretary of State, where the two ministers exchanged views on the successive developments in the Middle East region.
Ambassador/ Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the two ministers discussed the rapid developments in northern Syria and their repercussions on the security and stability of the region, where Minister Abdel Aati stressed Egypt’s position calling for the necessity of respecting Syrian sovereignty and the unity and integrity of Syrian territory, supporting its national institutions and the importance of protecting civilians.
The two ministers also exchanged views on developments in the Gaza Strip, where Minister Abdel Aati stressed the need to intensify regional and international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire and the unconditional and sustainable access of humanitarian aid to Gaza, reviewing in this regard the proceedings of the Cairo Conference to Enhance the Humanitarian Response in Gaza, hosted by Cairo on December 2, which reflected a broad international will to support the Palestinian people on the humanitarian level and the need for Israel to stop its arrogant policy that leads to obstructing the access of humanitarian aid to Gaza. On another level, Minister Abdel Aati reviewed the visit he made to Port Sudan yesterday, December 3, stressing Egypt’s position in support of Sudanese national institutions and respect for the unity and integrity of Sudanese territories, highlighting in this context the Egyptian efforts to ensure the access of humanitarian aid to Sudan and enable regional and international humanitarian and relief organizations to work in Sudan in light of the worsening humanitarian situation.
