KSA wins first place in the Arab world and ninth one globally in WRO 2024

The World Robot Olympiad WRO 2024, held in Turkey from November 26 to 30 with the participation of more than 90 countries around the world, concluded with Al-Jawhara bint Saud Al-Qahtani and Aseel bint Abdulaziz Al-Jasser achieving first place in the Arab world and ninth place globally in their first participation in the Future Engineers category.

This global competition, which aims to showcase the creativity of young people using robotics and artificial intelligence technologies, comes in partnership between the Ministry of Education, the Saudi Federation for Robotics and Wireless Sports, Tuwaiq Academy, and Tatweer Company for Educational Technologies.

In an interview with Al-Jawhara and Aseel, they confirmed that this joint achievement had been worked on for several months through an intensive camp at the headquarters of Tuwaiq Academy. The robot was built using advanced technologies in artificial intelligence and machine learning, in addition to using 3D printing technologies in its design and manufacture, and using a number of advanced sensors linked to the camera and radar technologies. The project was implemented in accordance with WRO regulations.

The Kingdom participated in the global finals of the World Robot Olympiad Championship WRO 2024 with 15 teams competing in which 30 male and female students from different regions of the Kingdom competed, led by 11 advisors and 15 technical trainers. The competition came in a number of fields, namely: robot tasks, robot sports, creators of the future, and engineers of the future.

It is worth noting that WRO is a global technology competition held annually with the participation of different age groups from all over the world. The intensive camp for participants was held at the Tuwaiq Academy, the training arm of the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming and Drones, with the aim of developing students’ creative and design capabilities and developing their problem-solving skills through competitions and activities related to robotics that are in line with educational plans.
