The Korean Cultural Center in Egypt opens the 9th session of Korean Cinema Nights (KCN) at Fox Cinema, City Center Almaza next Thursday, November 21 at 6:30 pm.
Under the auspices of the “Korean Film Overseas Screening Project” of the Korean Film Council, a public body entrusted with improving the quality of Korean films and promoting them at home and abroad, 7 recent films are scheduled to be screened during the period from November 21 to 24, and the films vary between romance, drama, action and fantasy. In order to provide a rich experience for the Egyptian audience, four directors of the films scheduled to be screened have been invited, in addition to Korean producer Son Hee Han, who is also an associate professor at the Film Academy of the Busan International Film Festival.
On the opening night, the film “Concrete Utopia” will be screened, followed by a meeting with the film’s director, Um Tae-hwa. The film takes place in the Korean capital, Seoul, which was hit by a devastating earthquake, and follows the residents of a building that miraculously remained intact as they face difficult situations while trying to survive.
On the second night, the romantic comedy “Bachelor in Seoul” will be screened at 4:30, and at 7:00, the drama “After Sohae” will be screened, followed by a meeting with the film’s director, Jung Jo-Lae.
On the third night, the drama “Bulldozer Girl” will be screened at 4:30, and at 7:00, the thriller and mystery film “Sleep” will be screened, followed by a meeting with the film’s director, Yoo Jae-Sun.
The Korean Cinema Nights will conclude on November 24 with the drama “My Dear Puppy” at 4:30, and at 7:00, the action and fantasy film “Dr. Chun and the Lost Talisman” will be screened, followed by a meeting with the film’s director, Kim Seung-Sik.
On the sidelines of the events, and in cooperation with the Academy of Arts, a symposium will be held on November 23 at the Academy’s headquarters, where Korean directors will review the story of the rise of Korean cinema. The Academy will also host a workshop on November 26 for emerging filmmakers under the supervision of Korean director Yoo Jason and Korean producer Son Hee Han.
