The Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Şen, participated in the 4-kilometer bicycle marathon organized by the Cairo Governorate and the Ministry of Sports in Cairo in the early hours of Friday morning, November 1.
Some ambassadors also participated in the bicycle marathon organized by the Cairo Governorate and the Egyptian Ministry of Sports and Youth ahead of the World Urban Forum that will start next week in Cairo.
Ambassador Shen stated that Turkey will participate with a large delegation in the World Urban Forum to be held in Cairo, noting that “the Deputy Minister of Environment and Urban Planning of the Republic of Turkey, the Mayor of Istanbul Municipality, and the President of the Union of Turkish Municipalities are in the forum.
The Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Shen, and ambassadors of 4 other countries also participated in the bicycle marathon that started from Cairo Governorate and ended in front of the Cairo Opera House.
During his participation in the marathon, Ambassador Salih Mutlu Shen said: I participated with pleasure in this marathon that was organized before the World Urban Forum to be held in Cairo next week. It was nice to ride a 4-kilometer bike after many years and see the empty streets of historic Cairo alongside the Governor of Cairo, Dr. Ibrahim Saber Khalil, the Minister of Sports and Youth, Ashraf Sobhi, and a large group of young people, adding, “We delivered a message of more livable and human-oriented cities for health and pedestrians.”
Ambassador Shen said: “Cities must give people space for pedestrians, and they must There should be green spaces, and the air should be clean and quiet. He added, “Traffic in Cairo has improved and more space has been provided for pedestrians and cyclists, and I hope that efforts will continue in this direction. The governor and the Minister of Sports have shown this will by cycling in the city center.
Ambassador Shen stated that one of the goals of the New Administrative Capital project established by President Sisi, within the context of Vision 2030 and the New Republic, is to reduce traffic and air pollution in the city by moving official government institutions from the center of Cairo, which is a huge city, in addition to providing a more peaceful and clean environment and creating livable areas.
Ambassador Shen explained that the new capital reduces traffic burden and exhaust emissions in Cairo, saying: “Cities should be for people, the trend now in all parts of the world is towards cleaner, greener and quieter cities, and they have pedestrian and bicycle areas.”
