Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Wednesday, discussing ways to help end the war in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and prevent the spread of the conflict to other parts of West Asia.
During the meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan on Wednesday, Pezeshkian and el-Sisi discussed the most important regional issues and also weighed plans to stop the Gaza war and Israel’s military onslaught against Lebanon and prevent a spread of clashes to the other parts of the region.
Highlighting his administration’s policy of rapport and endeavours to strengthen friendly relations with the other nations, Pezeshkian stressed that Iran is not seeking war and conflict at all.
He deplores the Western governments’ double standards and their support for the Zionist regime’s atrocities, warning that any Israeli mistake will certainly draw Iran’s painful response.
The president said the Zionist regime might intend to harm Iran, but the retaliatory harm that Israel will receive will be “beyond imagination”.
Regional tensions have escalated since October last year due to Israel’s offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 42,800 people, mostly women and children.
The conflict has spread to Lebanon, with Israel launching deadly attacks across the country. Over 2,500 people have been killed and more than 12,000 injured in Israeli attacks since October last year, according to Lebanese health authorities.
West Asia also braces for an expected response by Israel to Iran’s missile attack earlier this month.
In early October, Iran fired about 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel’s military, espionage and intelligence bases all over the occupied territories, in response to the Tel Aviv regime’s deadly assault in West Asia.
The aggression that prompted the retaliation had, among other things, led to the martyrdom of the resistance leaders and the ranking Iranian military official.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced in a statement that 90 percent of the Iranian missiles fired at Israel have successfully hit the targets, including the “strategic centers” in the occupied territories.
Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, have vowed to retaliate.
But Tehran has vowed to respond to potential repetition of the regime’s attack against the country with multiple magnitude, targeting all of the regime’s infrastructures.
El-Sisi, for his part, described unity as the main pillar of Muslim power, stated there are several diverse components of power, the most important of which is unity and solidarity among Muslims.
He also stressed the need for cooperation to end the war on the besieged enclave and Lebanon and avert a spread of clashes to the other parts of the region.
And according to FarasNewsAgency, the Egyptian president also called for the advancement of issues on the basis of friendship and mutual understanding, noting that he has never adopted a stance against Iran throughout the years that the relations between Cairo and Tehran have been strained.
El-Sisi finally urged Pezeshkian to rectify the incorrect image of Iran that has been displayed in the region and world over the past 40 years.
