The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs announces that the Arab Republic of Egypt has decided to cancel the pre-entry visas currently applied to Canadian citizens traveling to Egypt, with the availability of obtaining a visa upon arrival at Egyptian ports of entry. This is in addition to reactivating the option of applying and obtaining an electronic visa (E-VISA).
These procedures are scheduled to be implemented starting from December 1, 2024 for all Canadian citizens arriving in Egypt starting from that date.
This decision comes within the framework of what was agreed upon during the meeting that brought together Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, and the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Melanie Joly, recently on the sidelines of the activities of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
In the context of this year’s celebration of the seventieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Canada, and the agreement of the two sides on the importance of contributing together to facilitating and easing mutual trade and tourism flow, as well as working towards facilitating movement and visas for citizens of both countries, the decision to cancel the prior visas applied to Canadian citizens stems from the common keenness to develop all aspects of cooperation and work towards further facilitation by all available means for citizens of both countries, including Egyptian-Canadian citizens and linking them to their motherland, Egypt, within the framework of the directives of the President of the Republic to give top priority to taking into account the interests of Egyptian citizens abroad and removing any obstacles they may face.
