Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, received on October 13, Ms. Anna Claudia Rosbash, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program.
Minister Abdel Aati was keen to congratulate the UN official on assuming her new position as Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), and stressed the great interest that Egypt attaches to hosting the twelfth edition of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) in Cairo during the period from November 4 to 8, 2024, due to Egypt’s experience in the fields of urban development. He expressed appreciation for the close cooperation between Egypt and the program in the arrangements and preparatory work underway to host the forum, stressing the importance of focusing on the issues of mobilizing funding for urban development projects during the forum.
Minister Abdel Aati expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the major role played by the program in supporting development efforts in Egypt, stressing the pivotal role of the program in supporting the state’s efforts to face the increasing burdens resulting from receiving millions of refugees of different nationalities, which affects the efficiency of the infrastructure in the local communities receiving these refugees, pointing to the national efforts in the areas of urban development, most notably the establishment of a large number of new cities characterized by sustainability standards, most notably the New Administrative Capital and the New Alamein City, in addition to the tremendous shift in infrastructure projects, especially the road network that Egypt has established over the past years, the development of slums, and the state’s efforts to develop smart and environmentally friendly solutions in the areas of transportation and infrastructure in Egyptian cities.
