The $10 million project aims to enhance technical training, particularly through the introduction of a high-tech maintenance curriculum for environmentally friendly cars.
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the official development assistance agency of the Republic of Korea, and the Productivity and Vocational Training Authority (PVTD) and the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation signed the Record of Discussion for the implementation of the project entitled “Developing Green Car Maintenance Technology for Vocational Training Centers in Egypt”.
The Director of KOICA Egypt Office, Ms. Kim Jinyoung, signed the Record of Discussion with the Head of the Authority, Mr. Khaled Kamal Ali Abu Mandour, in the presence of Mr. Mahmoud Aql, Head of the Cooperation Team with the Republic of Korea representing the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation.
The $10 million project aims to increase employment opportunities and income growth for graduates of vocational training centers through the development of a comprehensive plan, the development of a new competency-based curriculum focusing on environmentally friendly vehicles (electric, compressed natural gas), as well as the development of specific training materials used in the automotive sector (engine, chassis, electricity/electronics, body repair, and painting). The project will also provide training courses to enhance the capabilities of technical and administrative staff in the centers. In addition, the project will support the centers with training equipment compatible with the new developed curriculum and a system for cooperation and linkage between the centers and their industrial partners.
This project is a continuation of a project entitled “Program for Improving the Vocational Training System in the Automotive Sector in Egypt”, which KOICA had previously implemented in Egypt and successfully completed in 2012 and contributed to improving the productivity and skills of trainees and increasing competitiveness in the automotive sector, thus increasing their job opportunities.
This cooperation with the Productivity Efficiency and Vocational Training Authority confirms KOICA’s commitment and desire to enhance comprehensive job skills and youth participation in social and economic development.
