Egypt & Korea Explore Expanded Cooperation in Electricity and Renewable Energy

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt, Kim Young-hyun, met with H.E. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the electricity and renewable energy sectors.
Ambassador Kim highlighted the crucial role the Ministry plays in Egypt’s economic development and public welfare through energy policy and energy supply. He acknowledged the ongoing successful cooperation between Korea and Egypt in nuclear and renewable energy projects and expressed his desire to expand this cooperation in various other areas, including energy storage systems, smart grids, and energy efficiency initiatives.
Ambassador Kim emphasized the importance of the Dabaa nuclear power project, noting that it will play a significant role in Egypt’s energy diversification strategy and efforts to combat climate change. In this regard, he commended the close cooperation and partnership between the Korean participating company and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
In the green energy sector, Ambassador Kim commended the Egyptian government’s efforts to become a global leader in renewable energy and green hydrogen. He highlighted the technology and global expertise of Korean companies in these fields and mentioned the renewable energy, green hydrogen and green ammonia projects being developed by Korean companies in the Ain Sokhna area. He expressed optimism about the successful progress and further expansion of cooperation in the field of green energy. In addition, he noted that energy is a key focus of the Korean government’s development cooperation, and projects funded by the Korea Development Economic Cooperation Fund could also be explored. Minister Esmat acknowledged Korea as a vital partner in the energy and electricity sectors, and praised its technological advancement and expertise. He expressed optimism about future cooperation, especially in the field of renewable energy and green hydrogen, and stressed the importance of successfully implementing ongoing projects and strengthening the energy partnership between the two countries.
