Mr. Jung Jun-Yoon, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cairo, stressed the depth of Korean-Egyptian relations, affirming that the two countries have succeeded in strengthening their relations in many fields in a relatively short period.
The Korean Ambassador explained in his speech on the occasion of the celebration of South Korea’s National Day that South Korea celebrates its National Day on October 3 of each year, which marks the anniversary of the founding of the first kingdom in Korea, the ancient “Choson” Kingdom, which was established by King “Dan Kun” in 2333 BC.
Mr. Jung said that Korea has succeeded in preserving its unique identity and rich cultural heritage over the past years, noting that the Korean people are proud of their ancient history and civilization.
Mr. Jung explained that this year also marks the fifteenth anniversary of the establishment of full diplomatic relations between Egypt and Korea, affirming that the two countries have succeeded in overcoming the geographical distance between them by deepening and expanding their cooperative relations in various fields, including political, economic and cultural.
The Korean ambassador said that the volume of trade between the two countries has reached 3 billion US dollars annually, and that the number of Korean companies operating in Egypt is constantly increasing thanks to Egypt’s economic growth, noting that Hyundai, Samsung, LG and other Korean companies have achieved remarkable success in the Egyptian market.
Mr. Jung praised the pivotal role played by Egypt in the Middle East peace process, and said that the Korean government highly appreciates the positive role and continuous efforts of the Egyptian government to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
Mr. Jung said that Korea is trying to expand its role in line with its growing capabilities in various global and regional issues. As the host country of the G20 summit to be held in Seoul in mid-November, Korea will do its utmost to contribute to achieving sustainable and balanced global growth. It will also seek to place a new item on the summit’s agenda related to the development of developing countries so that the G20 can develop a plan for economic growth over several years for the African continent.
It is worth noting that a large number of Egyptian officials, led by Ms. Moushira Khattab, Minister of State for Family and Population, participated in the celebration, along with a number of foreign ambassadors in Cairo.
