Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, met on September 28 with Mr. Mohamed Hassan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the positive movement witnessed by Egyptian-Malaysian relations in recent years, especially after the visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Egypt in October 2023. He expressed his hope that bilateral relations between the two countries would witness further rapprochement and constructive cooperation, and that the joint committee headed by the foreign ministers of the two countries would be held at the earliest opportunity.

Dr. Abdel Aati stressed the importance of promoting mechanisms for communication between businessmen in the two countries in a way that contributes to increasing trade exchange, and urged Malaysian companies to take advantage of the promising investment opportunities offered by the Egyptian market.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed the dangerous developments in the Middle East in light of the escalation of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon, the continuation of the war in Gaza and its repercussions on the Palestinian people, stressing the need to achieve an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and to spare the region from slipping into a regional war that threatens the security and stability of its peoples. Dr. Abdel Aati also thanked Malaysia for its keenness to mobilize resources and humanitarian aid for the Palestinians.
