Mr. Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, held a meeting on September 26 with Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, during his participation in the work of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Minister Abdel Aati praised the continuous development in relations between Egypt and Azerbaijan at all levels, referring to the high-level mutual visits between the two sides, most notably the visit of Mr. President of the Republic to Baku last year, and his being the first Egyptian president to visit Azerbaijan, as well as the recent visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Cairo in June 2024.

Dr. Abdel Aati expressed his aspiration to hold the meetings of the sixth session of the Egyptian-Azerbaijani Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation as soon as possible, as well as to hold a forum for Egyptian-Azerbaijani businessmen, increase the volume of trade and investment exchange, and consolidate economic partnerships between the private sectors in the two countries. He reviewed the national efforts made by the Egyptian state to overcome obstacles facing foreign investors, and stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, and activating communication between their friendship groups.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination in international forums and exchanging nominations for various international positions, and expressed Egypt’s welcome to the resumption of flights between Baku and Sharm El-Sheikh.

The two sides discussed the dangerous developments in the Middle East in light of the escalation of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and the continued aggression against the Palestinian people, and Minister Abdel-Ati warned that Israeli practices and violations threaten to slide the Middle East region into a state of confrontations that will expose the peoples of the region to dangerous consequences, stressing the need to achieve an immediate, comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and affirmed that Egypt will continue its efforts in communicating with regional and international parties to contain this dangerous escalation.
