Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aati gives Egypt’s speech at FS at UN General Assembly

On September 22, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, delivered Egypt’s speech at the “Future Summit” (FS), which is being held on the sidelines of the high-level segment meetings of the current session of the UN General Assembly.

In his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed Egypt’s welcome to holding the summit to enhance international multilateral action in the face of the grave challenges that cast their shadows on developing countries and negatively affect their efforts to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

Dr. Abdel Aati also expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the initiative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to introduce the “Future Summit” within his historic report “Our Common Agenda” in order to develop international governance to maintain international peace and security, and achieve development and prosperity. Dr. Abdel-Ati added that Egypt has presented a comprehensive vision of global governance, as it hosted the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development last July, which addressed a number of topics, most notably global governance, the global prevention agenda and sustainable peace, the interconnectedness between peace, security and development, and the future of peacekeeping operations in Africa.

Dr. Badr Abdel-Ati’s speech reflected Egypt’s keen interest in increasing development financing and reforming the structure of the global financial system, providing means of implementation, transferring technology and promoting digital cooperation, in addition to supporting the efforts of African countries to confront the negative effects of climate change.

In his speech, the Minister also touched on the current escalation of international tensions and the need to give top priority to the complete and irreversible elimination of nuclear weapons. He renewed Egypt’s commitment to continue working with all countries to achieve a better future, reflecting the ability of the United Nations to confront international challenges and achieve prosperity for the peoples of the world.
