Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, met on September 20, during his visit to Washington, with US Envoy to Lebanon Amos Hochstein.
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, stated that Minister Abdel Aati stressed the utmost importance of continuing efforts to contain the escalation in southern Lebanon and avoid slipping into a scenario of a comprehensive regional war, referring to Egypt’s tireless efforts to calm the region in general and southern Lebanon in particular, stressing the priority of
reaching a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, as it is the key to calming the situation in the region. His Excellency also reviewed the overall intensive contacts that the Egyptian side is conducting with various regional and international parties with the aim of stopping the escalation, pointing to the importance of continuing joint efforts to fully implement Security Council Resolution 1701, to maintain the security and stability of the Lebanese-Israeli border, and to ensure that Lebanese sovereignty is not violated.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated his warning of the serious and accelerating developments that Lebanon has witnessed over the past few days, which is a clear indication that the region is on the verge of a dangerous turning point due to irresponsible unilateral actions, which will lead to consequences that will cast a shadow over the stability of the entire region.
Ambassador Khalaf confirmed that Dr. Abdel Aati also stressed the importance of international support for the Lebanese government and various state institutions, in order to help Lebanon overcome the political and economic crises it is facing.
