Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), received Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), at the headquarters of the General Secretariat today, Wednesday, where he listened to a detailed explanation provided by the latter on the conditions of Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip in light of the ongoing bloodiest Israeli aggression and in the West Bank with the escalation of Israeli attacks, in addition to the challenges facing the agency on the financial and logistical levels due to the continued targeting of its headquarters and employees by the Israeli army and the increasing Israeli efforts aimed at disrupting the work of the agency.
Jamal Rushdi, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, explained that Aboul Gheit expressed during the meeting the Arab League’s full support for UNRWA’s mission and work, and what it is doing to support Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation, stressing at the same time the need for donor countries to continue fulfilling their obligations and contributions to the agency’s budget, especially in the sensitive situation that the Palestinians are experiencing today.
