Minister of foreign affairs & immigration appoints ambassador Tamim Khalaf as an official spokesperson

Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, issued a decision appointing Ambassador/ Tamim Khilaf as the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Supervisor of the Public Diplomacy Department, succeeding Ambassador/ Ahmed Abu Zeid after a presidential decree was issued appointing him as Egypt’s Ambassador to Brussels.

Ambassador/ Tamim Khilaf held the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for North American Affairs, and previously worked as a political advisor at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington and supervisor of the media office at the embassy, and worked at the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations in Geneva, and the Egyptian Embassy in Brazil. He previously worked for ten years in multilateral diplomatic work, where he was Director of Disarmament Affairs and Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy and a member of the United Nations Administration and represented Egypt in many international meetings and conferences at the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency. He was Egypt’s main negotiator in the negotiations that took place to draft the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which was adopted by the United Nations in 2017.

Ambassador Tamim Khilaf was previously assigned to the Presidency of the Republic, and worked in the office of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.

He obtained a BA in Political Science from the American University in Cairo in 1999, and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2003, and was a fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University in 2008/2009.
