The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received today, Tuesday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat, Mr. Lars Lokke Rasmussen, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, who is currently visiting Cairo.

Gamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that Aboul Gheit discussed with the Danish Foreign Minister ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two sides in areas of common interest.

Aboul Gheit expressed his appreciation for the Danish positions in support of the Palestinian cause, stressing his confidence that it will continue its role in supporting peace, security and stability in the Arab region, especially in light of Copenhagen’s victory in a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for the years 2025-2026.

In this context, the Secretary-General called on Denmark to follow the example of the European countries that recently recognized the independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, stressing that recognizing the State of Palestine paves the way for the embodiment of the two-state solution.

The official spokesman explained that the Danish Foreign Minister, for his part, stressed his country’s support for various Arab issues and concerns. He also reviewed Denmark’s foreign policy priorities at the present time, expressing his country’s keenness to develop relations with Arab countries in various fields.
