Today, the first activities of the International Olympiad for Artificial Intelligence (IAIO), organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), began for the first time in the world in cooperation with the International Center for Research and Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (ICAIRE) and the International Research Center for Artificial Intelligence in Slovenia, under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), with the participation of more than 25 countries.

A ceremony was held on this occasion, which included a number of paragraphs, heritage performances and speeches that illustrate the importance of this Olympiad as the first international Olympiad organized by the Kingdom in Riyadh, amid great interaction from thinkers and innovators from more than 25 countries in the world, in the presence of a number of officials from SDAIA, ICAIRE, and Professor John Tyler, Chairman of the Scientific Committee for the International Olympiad for Artificial Intelligence at UNESCO.

The Olympiad, which will continue until September 12, 2024, contributes to strengthening friendly international relations between technology and software experts and AI teachers in various countries, drawing the attention of young people to these modern technologies, and encouraging other countries to organize similar competitions in the future.

The Olympiad aims to motivate participants to engage in active discussions to explore the various applications of artificial intelligence, and encourage exceptionally talented young people in this field, which is increasingly of interest to the world.

It also contributes to enhancing the organization of artificial intelligence competitions for secondary school students and motivating them to find smart solutions by designing algorithms based on learning, data structuring, and programming.

The Olympiad enables male and female students, artificial intelligence specialists, and influencers in the world to delve into the future landscape of artificial intelligence, keep pace with the rapid changes the world is witnessing in this field, and provide young cadres with modern technical skills.

The International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IAIO) comes within the framework of SDAIA’s efforts to enhance the Kingdom’s global position as a leading country in the field of data and artificial intelligence, and to achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 aimed at raising awareness of the importance of these advanced technologies and providing societies with the knowledge and skills necessary to master them.
