Today, the Ambassador-designate of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Jürgen Scholz, and a team from the embassy traveled to North Sinai to hold talks. The Ambassador inspected the situation in Arish and the Rafah crossing and discussed ways to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Gaza with local authorities, institutions and relief organizations.
After speaking with the Governor of North Sinai, the Ambassador accompanied the Governor with representatives of the Egyptian Red Crescent, representatives of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and representatives of the World Food Program (WFP) to visit the humanitarian aid warehouse and visit the Rafah crossing. The Ambassador’s visit to North Sinai ended with talks with the health inspector and doctors at Arish General Hospital.
Ambassador Scholz added: “I would like to thank the Arab Republic of Egypt for its continuous efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza and to make humanitarian aid available. Opening the Rafah crossing and how to implement Resolution 2720 are two key factors for increasing humanitarian aid, and Egypt is a pivotal partner in achieving this.”
The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains catastrophic and Germany stands by the side of the suffering women, men and children in Gaza. Germany has significantly and repeatedly increased its humanitarian assistance.
It is worth noting that the total aid to the Palestinian territories has reached approximately 313 million euros, including approximately 240 million additional euros since October 7, 2024. The main focus of German assistance is to provide the most urgent needs of the people in Gaza, such as medical assistance and food, for example by distributing food boxes, sending an emergency medical team or providing psychosocial support to families.
