Mr. Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, received on Monday, September 2, British Commissioner for Trade with Africa “John Humphrey”.
In a statement by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, he explained that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration praised during the meeting the bilateral relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom in terms of existing and growing cooperation, especially in various economic and trade fields, most notably energy, including clean energy, communications and information technology, transportation and the supply of railway cars, in addition to cooperation in the field of developing cities and infrastructure, especially since the United Kingdom is at the top of the list of foreign investors in Egypt.
The official spokesman added that Minister Dr. During the meeting, Abdel-Ati reviewed the measures taken by the Egyptian state to empower the private sector, increase the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy, support the transition to a green economy, and provide investment incentives to localize some national industries. His Excellency stressed that these measures contributed to an investment boom in various economic activities, which represents an opportunity to attract more British investments in Egypt.
The official spokesman indicated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his aspiration to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom in various economic and investment fields that are important to the two countries and achieve mutual gains, as well as encourage British companies to further benefit from the opportunities available in the projects being implemented in Egypt, especially infrastructure projects, smart cities and renewable energy projects, which contributes to increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the meeting addressed the issue of enhancing cooperation and mobilizing investments in the African continent, as Minister Abdel Aati stressed the Egyptian side’s aspiration to enhance cooperation with the United Kingdom within the framework of tripartite cooperation in African countries, and to benefit in this regard from the presence and close strategic relations that the Egyptian and British sides have with the countries of the continent, especially in issues of common interest, most notably clean and renewable energy, transportation, infrastructure, and health.
For his part, the British official stressed the United Kingdom’s aspiration to continue enhancing its investments in Egypt, and its keenness to work jointly to enhance business, trade, and investment between the two countries and build capacities, in order to enhance trade exchange in a way that reflects the depth of Egyptian-British relations.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman concluded his statements, pointing out that Dr. Abdel Aati was keen to listen to the ideas and proposals presented by the British Trade Commissioner in order to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom in various economic and investment fields in a way that serves the interests of the Egyptian and British peoples.
