Today August 30, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, made a phone call to Mr. “Giorgos Gerapetritis”, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece.
In a statement by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, he explained that the call came within the framework of the specificity of the historical relations between the two countries and their strategic nature, and the keenness to follow up on joint projects between the two countries and coordinate regarding regional issues of common interest.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration stated that Minister Abdel Aati stressed to his Greek counterpart the strong friendship relations that bind the two countries and Egypt’s aspiration to strengthen and develop them in all fields, especially since it is currently witnessing a qualitative shift that places it in the ranks of strategic relations based on political and economic axes, extended historical ties and geographical proximity that contributed to expanding the scope of common interests.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of consolidating economic cooperation between Egypt and Greece, especially in the commercial and investment aspects, and exploring more prospects for cooperation in other files, such as the labor file, in addition to emphasizing the commitment to cooperation within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Cyprus, which has become a model to be emulated as an integrated regional cooperation framework to confront the escalating regional challenges in the Mediterranean region.
The official spokesman added that the call touched on the seriousness of the rapid developments witnessed by the region and the importance of working to intensify efforts to avoid the escalation of violence and instability in the region, as Dr. Abdel-Ati informed his Greek counterpart about the contacts that Egypt is conducting with many countries in the region, the United States and a number of European countries, in order to work to contain the current state of tension and escalation.
For his part, the Greek Foreign Minister praised the depth of relations between the two countries, expressing his aspiration to continue strengthening strategic relations between Egypt and Greece at the bilateral and regional levels, and praising the efforts made by Egypt at the political and humanitarian levels to resolve successive crises in the Middle East, and the role played by Egypt as a pillar of security and stability in the region, appreciating the intensive contacts made by the Foreign Minister and Egypt’s tireless efforts to contain tension in the region.
At the end of the call, the two ministers agreed to continue consultation and coordination for the benefit of the two countries and the peoples of the region.
