5 August – Applications for the UK government’s fully-funded Chevening Scholarship scheme opened on 5 August, with applications to be submitted viawww.chevening.org/apply. All Egyptians can apply regardless of age, gender, disability and religion. The deadline for applying is 5 November 2019 at 12:00 GMT.
Since the programme was created in 1983, over 1,300 outstanding Egyptian professionals have had the opportunity to study in the UK through Chevening. There are more than 1,500 scholarships on offer globally for the 2020/2021 academic year, demonstrating the UK’s ongoing commitment to developing the leaders of tomorrow.
In 2019, Chevening offered 50 scholarships to Egyptians in a wide variety of fields.The scholarships support Egyptians with demonstrable leadership potential to study one-year master’s degrees in any field at any of the UK’s world-class universities. Oil giant BP Egypt also sponsored one scholar to study Petroleum Engineering in the UK.
Dean, School of Business at the American University in Cairo, Dr. Sherif Kamel, said: “There is no doubt in my mind that the opportunity that was provided to me to study in the UK through the Chevening Scholarship has been one of the building blocks that shaped my career, not just in the academic space as a university professor, but in general in fulfilling my career objectives and beyond.”
British Ambassador to Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams, said: “We are looking for ambitious, professional, and innovative future leaders from all walks of life, who will study hard in the UK, and be open to immersing themselves in the opportunities ahead of them. We hope that when you return home after your studies you will feel well-equipped to make a real difference.”

Chevening is the UK Government’s global scholarship scheme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one year taught master’s degrees – for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers.
Chevening began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international awards scheme. Chevening Scholars come from over 160 countries and territories worldwide, and almost 1,800 scholarships were awarded in 2019/2020. The name ‘Chevening’ comes from Chevening House in Sevenoaks, Kent – currently the joint official residence of the UK’s Foreign Secretary.
