His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, received today His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Sheikh, on the sidelines of his chairmanship of the Kingdom’s delegation participating in the work of the 35th Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs currently being held in Cairo, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Egypt, Saleh bin Eid Al-Hussaini.
The meeting discussed topics of common interest, especially those related to coordination to start and launch the work of the joint committee between the ministry and Al-Azhar, in the field of cooperation in Islamic fields and spreading moderation and exchanging experiences in this regard.
During the meeting, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar praised the pioneering role played by the Kingdom and its wise leadership in serving Muslims around the world, caring for the Two Holy Mosques, spreading the ideal values of tolerance, and promoting the culture of dialogue and peaceful coexistence, noting the distinguished participation of the Kingdom in the conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Egypt, headed by His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs.
He noted the excellence of Saudi women in development and building the nation under the wise leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Crown Prince – may God protect them.
In turn, His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs stressed the important and prominent role that Al-Azhar provides to the world in spreading science, culture and knowledge and confronting extremism, and its long-standing role in graduating scholars and thinkers.
During the meeting, His Excellency reviewed the efforts made by the wise leadership – may God support it – in empowering women and caring for their affairs, and their access to leadership positions and representing the Kingdom in local and international forums.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Abdul Latif Al Sheikh presented a gift to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, which was a copy of the luxurious Qur’an produced by the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Qur’an.
