The closing meeting of the second phase of the cooperation project between the League of Arab States,(LAS) and the European Union on combating the illicit trafficking and proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the member states of the League of Arab States was held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, which is organized by the Department of Arms Control and Disarmament – Political Affairs Sector in cooperation with the European Union and the project’s implementing partners (Interpol, World Customs Organization, Small Arms Survey Program), on 25 and 26/8/2024.
This meeting is the result of the existing cooperation between the League of Arab States and the European Union, convinced of the importance of coordination and synergy of efforts between regional and international organizations to reduce the illicit trafficking in small arms and light weapons. During the meeting, the second phase of the cooperation project was evaluated and prospects for future cooperation between the two organizations in the field of combating illicit small arms and light weapons were discussed.
His Excellency Ambassador Khalid bin Mohammed Manzalawi, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the International Political Affairs Sector, honored the heads of delegations from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and the Kingdom of Morocco in appreciation of their countries’ efforts in supporting the second phase of the cooperation project.
