Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, met today, August 24, with Ms. Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo, for a working breakfast, on the sidelines of his visit to Japan to participate in the activities of the TICAD Ministerial Meeting currently being held in the Japanese capital.
In a statement by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, he explained that Dr. Abdel Aati was keen at the beginning of the meeting to congratulate Tokyo Governor on her re-election for the third consecutive time, expressing Egypt’s aspiration to continue cooperation and coordination with her on bilateral cooperation files of common interest, and praising Koike’s relationship with Egypt, and her participation in attending the climate summit hosted by Egypt in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked Tokyo Prefecture for the support provided to Egypt in connection with the “Golden Treasures of King Ramses II Exhibition” scheduled to be launched in March 2025, appreciating Japan’s hosting of this type of traveling exhibition for the first time in Asia in appreciation of the distinguished relations between the two countries, expressing his hope that the exhibition will contribute to strengthening the popular and cultural ties between the two countries, in addition to enhancing the flow of Japanese tourism to Egypt.
In connection with the areas of bilateral cooperation, the official spokesman stated that Dr. Abdel-Ati noted the importance of Egyptian governorates benefiting from Japanese expertise in the field of waste recycling, environmental conservation and green transformation, and increasing community awareness in the field of environmental conservation. His Excellency also praised the student exchange program concluded between Tokyo Prefecture and the Ministry of Education, and looked forward to continuing the program for its positive effects in bringing the Egyptian and Japanese peoples closer together and enhancing the exchange and respect of cultures, in addition to empowering youth.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid concluded his remarks by pointing out that the Minister of Foreign Affairs focused on the axis of economic cooperation between the two countries during the meeting, as it represents a high priority for the Egyptian side, suggesting inviting Egyptian emerging companies to events and activities organized by Tokyo Prefecture to exchange and transfer expertise in this pioneering field. For its part, Tokyo Prefecture welcomed the study of the areas of cooperation that were discussed during the meeting, noting that there are many and varied areas of joint cooperation that can be enhanced and built upon.
