Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs receives a phone call from the US Secretary of State
Mr. Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, received a phone call on Wednesday, August 14, from Mr. Anthony Blinken, US Secretary of State, to consult and coordinate on the most prominent developments in the region.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, stated that the two sides reviewed the most prominent efforts made to face the ongoing escalation in the region and work to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as the two sides discussed the results of their contacts and efforts in this regard. Dr. Badr Abdel Aati also stressed the necessity and speed of reaching an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, full access to humanitarian aid, and positive engagement with the Egyptian/Qatari/American mediation efforts and engaging seriously and with real political will in the ceasefire negotiations, considering it the only way to stop the escalation in the region and contain attempts to expand the circle of conflict.
The official spokesman added that the call touched on the situation regarding efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan, especially in light of the Geneva meetings, where Minister Abdel Aati stressed Egypt’s support for all efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Sudan, which would put an end to the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people and ensure the preservation of their lives and property. For his part, the US Secretary of State reiterated his appreciation for the Egyptian role in achieving security and stability in the region. The official spokesman concluded his statements by pointing out that the two ministers discussed a number of bilateral issues during the call, stressing the importance of strategic relations between the two sides, and agreed to continue consultation and coordination during the coming period.
