Today, the pioneer journalist and Parliamentary Mr Usama Sharshar, editor-in-chief of Al-Nahar newspaper, said that “BRICS” is an opportunity for cooperation between member states, especially after Egypt joined the economic group last January, after receiving a request from the group in August 2023.

Mr Sharshar added on the sidelines of a symposium entitled: “Egypt and BRICS.. Reading the Future of Cooperation”, which was held today, Saturday, at the headquarters of the Egyptian-Chinese Friendship Association (ECFA) in downtown Cairo, patronized by ambassador Aly Alhifny the vice-president of (ECFA) that it is time to activate the role of embassies in economic cooperation with the BRICS countries, explaining that we do not need hot money but we need hot ideas with China, Russia, India, Iran and the rest of the countries of the economic group.

SharShar added that the BRICS community is a political vision before it is an economic one, pointing out that everything that happens in the world is a game of political interests in which the fittest survive, and that countries need to get out of the American cloak, and look for political and economic alternatives that achieve the interests of all parties.

Usama SharShar expressed his surprise at the lack of parliamentary cooperation committees between the Egyptian parliament members and the parliaments of the BRICS countries to convey the pulse of the peoples, their perceptions and needs between these countries, stressing the need for a cooperation protocol between parliaments so that we can achieve the maximum benefit from BRICS.

He commented, saying: Where is the role of the Egyptian embassies in the BRICS countries?

“Why is the role of the Egyptian embassies not activated with their offices and commercial, cultural, media and educational advisors in the BRICS countries to create a real and realistic vision for the industrial and cultural needs in these countries, esp. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will travel next October to attend Egypt’s first meeting with the BRICS countries in Russia?”, wondered Me Sharshar.

SharShar Pointed out that the population of the BRICS countries is 3.5 billion people, representing about 45% of the world’s population of approximately 7 billion and 800 million people, which serves the interests of nearly half of the world’s population.

Sharshar said, “What would be the position of the BRICS countries if one of the member states of the group, such as Iran, was attacked by Israel or entered into a regional war with Israel?! And can the question be raised to the BRICS group during its meeting next October to become a political and military group instead of being an economic group only?

Sharshar stressed the need to preserve the identity of Arab national security through BRICS, explaining that American and Western policy does not care about Arab countries or their issues, indicating that (Biden’s promise is more dangerous than the Balfour Declaration) because he wanted to erase Palestine from the world map and achieve the dream of Greater Israel.

He explained that there are no political doors and windows, noting that there are no cultural exchanges between China and Egypt, and on the other hand there is the penetration of American culture into Egyptian roots, which contradicts the world’s trend to form political and economic blocs that challenge American hegemony. The symposium was attended by Dr. Ali El-Hafny, Vice President of the Egyptian-Chinese Friendship Association, Dr. Salwa Thabet, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Future University, Dr. Mohamed Salman Taie, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, Dr. Ding Long, Professor of International Relations at Shanghai International Studies University, and specialist in Middle Eastern affairs, Elena Matveyta, Member of the Board of Directors of the Russian United Nations Foundation, Ambassador Dr. Magdy Amer, former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian-Chinese Friendship Association, Dr. Ahmed Kandil, Head of the International Relations and Energy Program Unit at the Al-Ahram Center for Political Studies, Dr. Ayman Moussa, Media Advisor to the General Information Service, and Media Advisor in Moscow, Dr. Essam Sheha, Head of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, and Member of the National Council for Human Rights, Dr. Ahmed Mustafa, Director of the Asia Center for Studies and Translation, Chen Nan, Deputy Head of the Political Section at the Chinese Embassy, Dr. Amal Mahmoud, Professor of Public Administration and Expert in Sustainable Development, Dr. Ashraf Abu Aref, Editor-in-Chief of the Diplomatic website, and Dr. Ashraf Mahmoud, Director of Al-Ahram Digital, Al-Ahram newspaper, and artist and director Ashraf Sarhan.
