Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met on Saturday, June 29, with Mr. Ahmed Moallem Faki, Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, during the latter’s stop in Cairo on the evening of June 29, where the meeting discussed developments in the situation in Somalia and in the Horn of Africa region.
Jamal Rushdie, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that the meeting comes within the framework of continuous consultation and coordination between the General Secretariat and Somalia regarding the most important developments in the issue of supporting Somalia’s sovereignty and stability, especially with regard to the issue of the agreement between the Somaliland region and Ethiopia, regarding which clear decisions have previously been issued by the Secretary-General.
The spokesman added that the Secretary-General stressed the keenness of the Arab League to stand by Somalia in the face of any pressures or challenges that threaten its sovereignty and territorial integrity, indicating that the Arab League emphasized this in all its relevant decisions, as well as its support for all efforts of the federal government to strengthen and activate National dialogue to achieve the interests and aspirations of the Somali people.
