Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Mr. Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, received on Saturday, June 29, Mr. Ahmed Moallem Fiqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, where the meeting discussed various aspects of Egyptian/Somali relations and ways to strengthen and develop them in various aspects.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman explained that the discussions dealt with existing cooperation programs between the two countries in the fields of training, aviation, health, education and culture. The two ministers expressed their happiness at the imminent announcement of the opening of a direct airline between the two countries next July, as well as the opening of a branch of the Bank of Egypt in Somalia.
On the other hand, Ambassador Abu Zeid revealed that the meeting touched on the regional situation in the Horn of Africa region, where the foreign ministers of the two countries exchanged consultation and coordination on the most important developments in this regard, and stressed their keenness to support stability and peace and avoid sources of tension and destabilization.
At the end of the meeting, the specificity of Egyptian-Somali relations and the mutual keenness to develop and strengthen them during the next stage were emphasized.
