Al-Ahsa, represented by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shabeeth, won the position of Vice President of the Creative Cities Network at UNESCO in the field of handicrafts and folk arts, which number 66 cities in the world, after Al-Ahsa obtained membership in the global network in the creative field at the initiative of the Al-Ahsa Municipality in 2015.
This comes with the support of the national supporting bodies represented by the Al-Ahsa Municipality, Al-Ahsa Governorate, the Culinary Arts Authority, the Saudi National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, the Heritage Authority, the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts, and also due to the creative capabilities that Al-Ahsa possesses, which places it in the ranks of its counterparts in countries. The world, in addition to having a rich cultural heritage and a deep history in the field of handicrafts and folk arts.
Al-Ahsa worked to develop general objectives for the importance of integrating and highlighting the link between education and cultural and creative activities to enhance the sustainability of handicrafts and folk arts. During the past years, Al-Ahsa was able to transfer its expertise and experiences in preserving handicrafts and folk arts to creative cities around the world through many international meetings and conferences in (Korea, Poland, France, America, Australia, Brazil).
Al-Ahsa was represented in the global network in the creative field as the first Gulf city and the third Arab city, achieving close cooperation for development programs between creative cities. With the aim of sustainable development and working to preserve heritage, in addition to exchanging experiences and integration between member cities.
