Egypt celebrates the International Day 2024 of Yoga

The Embassy of India in Cairo celebrated the 10th edition of International Yoga Day 2024 in Cairo Governorate at Freedom Park in Zamalek on June 21, 2024.

The United Nations General Assembly designated June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014 after issuing a resolution that was approved by 175 member states, including the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The series of inaugural celebrations for this year’s International Yoga Day was characterized by its diversity and was held in various governorates of the Arab Republic of Egypt, including Luxor, Hurghada, Alexandria, Minya and Ismailia. In addition, the Maulana Azad Indian Cultural Center in Cairo also organized a special yoga workshop on weight control, strengthening the spine and relieving stress, in cooperation with Al-Nasr Club and Al-Gezira Sports Club.

As part of the International Yoga Day celebrations in Egypt, the Maulana Azad Indian Cultural Center in Cairo organized a competition for the best yoga photo entitled “Yoga Poses in Famous Places,” in which Egyptians participated with great enthusiasm, as many young men and women from Egypt sent very wonderful photos. They practice yoga in famous tourist places in Egypt, such as: the pyramids, Luxor Temple, the Nile River, the Red Sea, the Black and White Desert… and other places.

His Excellency the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, highlighted the growing popularity of yoga in Egypt during the 2024 International Yoga Day celebrations in Srinagar, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, on June 21, 2024. He specifically referred to the “Yoga Poses in Famous Places” competition #YogaAtIconicPlace, expressing Appreciation of young Egyptian men and women for sharing photos of them performing yoga poses at popular tourist sites such as the Pyramids.

The theme of this year’s International Yoga Day was “Yoga for the Individual and Society” to bring us a message to discover the power of yoga to help transform and change on the personal and societal levels. The events, held by the Indian Embassy in Cairo throughout the year across Egypt to celebrate International Yoga Day 2024, witnessed the participation of nearly 20,000 Egyptians.

The Indian Embassy in Cairo received consistent and significant support from the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and various governorates during the organization of these events. The presence and participation of senior officials in the various yoga activities, organized by the embassy, confirmed the joint commitment to working to promote a culture of health and happiness through the practice of yoga.
