The European Union Ambassador to Egypt: We are keen to further enhance cooperation on immigration issues in all its forms as it is one of the axes of Egyptian-European relations.
Ambassador Soha Gendi, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, received Mr. Christian Berger, European Union Ambassador to Egypt, to discuss the latest developments in cooperation in the file of training for employment, which is the establishment of an Egyptian-European center to support employment in Europe according to the needs of labor markets. This coincides with the approaching end of Mr. Christian Berger’s period of work in Egypt, which lasted for 4 years.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Saber Suleiman, Assistant Minister for Institutional Development and Technical Office Affairs, Ambassador Salah Abdel Sadiq, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation, Professor Doaa Qadri, Head of the Central Administration for Minister’s Office Affairs, Professor Sarah Mamoun, Assistant Minister for Projects and International Cooperation Affairs, and Professor Karim Hassan, Advisor. For her part, Ambassador Soha Gendy, Minister of Immigration, welcomed the European Union Ambassador to Egypt, and stressed that this meeting comes to enhance ways of cooperation and exchange of experiences in immigration and development files, in support of relations between Egypt and the European Union in the field of immigration and training for employment, praising the close relations between Egypt. And the Union at various levels, and also reviewed the Ministry’s efforts in combating illegal immigration and creating suitable alternative job opportunities for it, in cooperation between the relevant state institutions and ministries, international partners and civil society organizations, welcoming cooperation to study ways to launch a center specialized in rehabilitating youth according to the needs of European markets, to become a center. for expertise, in addition to integrating returnees into the state’s sustainable development plans.
The Minister of Immigration stressed the importance of taking serious steps to begin developing a road map to establish a center that represents a point of continuous communication between the European Union and the Egyptian state to facilitate the sponsorship and support of the movement of skilled workers and citizens with expertise in various fields between Egypt and the European Union, and to provide all the services and training that young people need. So that everyone can benefit from these results and achieve the desired fruits of cooperation, in accordance with the needs of labor markets in Europe.
Ambassador Soha Gendi discussed the successful experience of existing cooperation with the German side, with regard to the Egyptian-German Center for Jobs, Immigration and Reintegration, by linking training to the labor market and employing and employing Egyptians in the professions that Germany needs. She pointed out that work is being done to expand it and establish other similar centers with a number of other centers. Friendly countries wishing to benefit from Egyptian labor and expertise to fill professional gaps in their societies, pointing to cooperation in this regard also with the Italian and Dutch sides to establish centers affiliated with them, and to her meeting with the Greek Minister of Immigration to discuss cooperation in the areas of regular immigration and combating illegal immigration by providing safe alternatives.
For his part, the European Union Ambassador to Egypt, Ambassador Christian Berger, explained the importance of cooperation between Egypt and the Union in the field of immigration, declaring that cooperation will be further strengthened between the two sides on immigration issues, with the participation of experts and specialists from both sides, noting the importance of positive implementation of the immigration program, praising Egyptian efforts to address the main causes that lead to illegal immigration.
Berger appreciated what Egypt is doing in training and qualifying young people, including the Egyptian-German Center, expressing his interest in the existence of similar centers that provide services: providing reliable information about job requirements and vocational training in the European labor market, and providing job opportunities in Egypt after providing technical training programs to raise The level of youth skills, consistent with European labor market standards, concluding bilateral agreements to ensure better migration governance, and creating room for direct communication and discussions between the Ministry of State for Immigration and official bodies in European countries to discuss immigration issues in terms of illegal immigration and job opportunities, noting that the European Union He allocates large budgets to reduce illegal immigration, and proposes cooperation mechanisms between the Egyptian state and the European Union, pointing out the importance of discussing all theses related to the immigration file with the participation of the Ministry of Immigration, which the Europeans consider to be an essential partner for the Union in this project, and what is related to the transfer of labor and building a job center, in accordance with the standards. Europe, and providing the necessary European support to it.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to arrange and coordinate the immigration file, as it is one of the basics of the Egyptian-European strategic dialogue, and the training file for employment and the establishment of technical training centers with funding from the European Union within the framework of strategies to combat illegal immigration, and to provide everything new in this regard. And developing opportunities for integration in light of the existence of common goals that bring together Egypt and the Union.
