Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, received Dr. Axel Ebenhorst, Australian Ambassador to Cairo, to discuss mechanisms for enhancing cooperation in areas of common interest, at the Guidance Building in Ismailia Governorate.
At the beginning of the meeting, Lieutenant General Rabie welcomed the Australian Ambassador in Cairo, stressing the Suez Canal’s keenness to complete the ambitious development strategy it is pursuing to maintain the leading position of the canal to continuously develop its capabilities and capabilities, as this strategy has facilitated the transit of about 26 thousand ships during the past year, and provides all Navigational services and auxiliary units necessary for their safe and secure crossing.
The Chairman of the Authority stressed that the Suez Canal will remain the fastest and shortest route, as savings rates for trips heading through the Suez Canal between the continent of Asia and Europe range from 9 days to two weeks, according to the ports of arrival and arrival, pointing out that the Cape of Good Hope route, which many ships have taken in the period The latter, as a result of the Red Sea tensions, is an unsustainable road that lacks the necessary services, in addition to the increasing danger due to bad weather conditions during most periods of the year.
Lieutenant General Rabie also reviewed the Authority’s efforts in the field of yacht tourism, as the Authority has an ambitious plan to develop the Authority’s yacht marinas in Port Said, Ismailia, and Port Tawfiq. It has already succeeded in developing the Ismailia Yacht Marina, which allows it to accommodate 100 yachts, in addition to providing an advanced services system for yachts.
For his part, Dr. Axel Wabenhorst, Australian Ambassador to Cairo, stressed the strategic importance of the Suez Canal globally, as it is the cornerstone of global seaborne trade, noting that the recent tensions in the Bab al-Mandab region have greatly harmed intra-trade between the continents of Asia and Europe, and will increase the burdens and costs of transportation. As a result of the increase in the duration of the sea voyage and the arrival of cargo.
At the end of the meeting, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie and the Australian Ambassador exchanged souvenirs, followed by a visit by the Australian Ambassador to the Suez Canal Museum, followed by a sea tour of the new Suez Canal.
