Saudi FAC heads to Women’s Empowerment Working Group within the framework of G20 in Brazil

The Family Affairs Council heads the Kingdom’s delegation participating in the second meeting of the Women’s Empowerment Working Group within the framework of the G20, headed by the Federal Republic of Brazil, held during the period May 14-15 under the slogan “Building a Fair and Sustainable Planet.”

The Secretary-General of the Family Affairs Council and head of the Saudi delegation participating in the G20 meetings in Brazil, Dr. Maimunah bint Khalil Al Khalil, received the Kingdom’s speech, and the delegation participated in the group’s meetings and deliberated on the working papers presented in its three sessions.

In its first session, the second meeting of the Women’s Empowerment Working Group discusses the topic “Equality, Economic Independence, and the Care Economy,” while the second session addresses “Equality and Confronting Violence and Discrimination against Women,” and the meeting concludes its sessions on the second day with the topic “Equality and Climate Justice.”

The Family Affairs Council is linked to the G20 as a national representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, within the framework of women’s empowerment in the G20, while the Women’s Empowerment Working Group was introduced and established under the Indian presidency for the year 2023 AD, to begin its work for the first time under the Brazilian presidency for this year 2024 AD.

The participation of women’s representatives from former member states, “including the Family Affairs Council,” came within the framework of the “Private Sector Alliance to Empower and Support Women’s Economic Representation (EMPOWER) initiative, which was established under the guidance of G20 leaders at the 2019 Osaka Summit in Japan, and began its first meetings under the presidency of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia on April 9, 2020 AD, transforming from an initiative into a women’s empowerment working group.
